Ardath Slater, age 90 of Monroe, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at St. Clare Friedensheim, Monroe.
Ardath was born September 12, 1920 in West Lima, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Gage) Vodak.
She graduated from West Lima High School in 1938, Richland County Normal School in 1941, and Whitewater State University with a bachelor degree in Education in 1960. She was married to Marten Mosher and on September 27, 1957 Ardath married Kenneth Slater in Freeport, IL. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1991.
Ardath taught at McNeel Grade School in Beloit for 30 years before retiring in 1981. She received a distinguished service award from Governor Lee Dreyfus in 1980.
She lived in Beloit, Gillingham, WI, Lady Lake, FL, and has been a resident of Monroe since 1999.
She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Monroe, and was a faithful volunteer of the Kiwanis neighborhood breakfast program.
She is survived by four children, Mardath (Jack) Hermanson of Lake Forest, CA, David (Jo Ellen) Mosher of Monroe, Daniel (Gale) Mosher of Santee, CA, and Kenneth (Kathy) Slater of Hartland, WI; ten grandchildren, Brent (Carrie), Brad (Robin), and Brian Hermanson, Teresa (Kyle) Keehn, Scott (Katie) Mosher, Amy Mosher (Mike McGarry), Christopher Mosher, Patrick Mosher, Jennifer and Joseph Slater; three step-grandchildren, Vicki (Chris) Kersten, Angela Kroernschild, and Melissa (Zeb) Klessing; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Vodak (Delores Gruber) of DeSoto, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leon Vodak; and a sister, Lois Edwards.
A celebration of Ardath's life will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., at Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe. Rev. Dr. Marilyn Sandin-Ross will officiate with a luncheon to follow in the Union Presbyterian fellowship hall. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Ardath's name to the Monroe Excellence in Education Fund or Union Presbyterian Church. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
