NEW GLARUS - Allen J. Fjelstad, age 74, of New Glarus passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. He was born on May 26, 1943 to his parents Grant and Pauline (Bandi) Fjelstad. Allen graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961. He then served in the in the United States Army in Germany in the middle 60's. After his discharge from the service Allen graduated from Madison Business College. He worked at Cuna Mutual in Madison for over 25 years. On November 4, 1967 he was united in marriage to Diana Mattison at the Baraboo Methodist Church. Allen was a charter member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and a member of Stuessy-Kuenzi American Legion Post #141 and the Sons of Norway. He also was very active in New Glarus bowling and softball leagues. Allen enjoyed many outdoor activities like making wood, hunting, gardening, farming with his sons-in-law, and spending time at the cabin. His recent passion was to research and discuss genealogy. He loved to attend and watch his children's and later his grandchildren's sporting events.
Allen is survived by his wife Diana, daughters Kristie (Kevin) Falk, Cheryl (Sean) Palecek, and Cindy (Tom) Esser, grandchildren Kacy, Kelly, Kory, Cianan, Lucas, Carly, and Tyler, and a great-grandson Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law Tom and Elvira Mattison.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Primrose East Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
