MONROE - The Monroe Public Safety Committee on Monday postponed a request by the Monroe Main Street Design Committee to amend current bicycle routes and to add new routes throughout the city.

The committee has outlined a traffic pattern plan for bicyclists from Twining Park to the Square via 16th Avenue, and along 10th Avenue to Wis. 69.

Alderman Jan Lefevre raised concern about the safety of a bike lane left of a parking lane on 16th Avenue.

Committee Chairman Chuck Koch said there were more things to look at, such as who would maintain bike routes and where the money would come from.

Committee member Paul Hannes also said the change of the Wis. 69 business route from 16th Avenue and 17th to 20th avenues needed to be settled first.

Street Supervisor Tom Boll said he would estimate the cost of labor and signs to make the change.

The business route change needs approval by the Public Safety Committee before the bike routes are established.
