City continues hydrant, sewer maintenance

MONROE - Monroe's water utility department will be performing routine maintenance, including hydrant flushing, valve turning and sewer jetting and televising, throughout the summer.

The next area scheduled for sewer cleaning and televising is Wisconsin 69 to 11th Avenue/21st Street to 18th Street and runs Monday through Aug. 15.

Customers may see some discoloration in their water. In a news release, the Monroe utilities department said the water is safe to drink; the discoloration is caused by encrusted minerals being flushed from the walls of the mains. To avoid discolored water, turn on the cold tap and let the water run until it becomes clear.

More information is available by calling the Monroe utilities office at 608-329-2483 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
