SOUTH WAYNE — With an upcoming Open House on August 26 and the first day of school on Sept. 1, Bob Lloyd looks forward to sharing these ‘firsts’ with the students and staff of the Black Hawk School District, which serves the communities of Browntown, Gratiot, Martintown, South Wayne, Wiota and Woodford.
“I am honored to join a school district with a strong tradition of excellence in the classroom, athletic fields, and the many extracurricular opportunities provided to our students,” Lloyd wrote in his first public post as the new Superintendent of the Black Hawk School District. “I was interested and accepted the position at South Wayne because it was evident that the board and the community support the district and are passionate about their school.”
Raised as part of a large family, growing up enjoying farm-life, Lloyd was taught the fundamentals of success, as the values of hard work, responsibility, and working together to get the job done were deeply instilled in him.
“I grew up on a dairy farm outside of Fond du Lac, and graduated from Goodridge High School in Fond du Lac,” he said. “On the farm, everyone had an important role to play. Our family needed to get back home after school to work on the farm. Those life experiences continue to guide my leadership today. I believe the same spirit of teamwork and shared purpose is what makes rural communities and their schools so special.”
Lloyd attended Marian University for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He completed his Superintendent Licensure at Cardinal Stritch University. Before becoming the new Superintendent of Black Hawks Schools, Lloyd said he enjoyed several years as an elementary educator in Fond du Lac and Lomira.
“Those years in the classroom reinforced my belief that every child has unique gifts and potential,” he said. “What those years taught me is that strong relationships built between schools, families, and communities are the foundation of student success. I firmly believe that our schools are the heart of our community. By working together, with mutual trust, open communication, and a shared vision, we can provide an educational experience that prepares every student for success in college, careers, military service, and life.”
His experience as a Superintendent has best prepared him for the upcoming school year at Black Hawk Schools.
“I had the privilege of serving as Superintendent of the Lomira School District,” he said. “During my time there, I worked closely with our Board of Education, staff, families, and community members to provide excellent educational opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on fiscal responsibility, student achievement, and community partnerships. My goals are to use my experiences as a past superintendent to run the district efficiently while creating meaningful learning opportunities for the students.”
Lloyd is an avid sports fan, though he said he was unable to participate in sports activities in high school due to farm obligations. As a strong supporter of school sports and extracurricular activities, he said the traditions of Black Hawk schools is most important to him.
“Together, we need to honor the traditions of the Black Hawk School District while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said. “I am a big sports fan and spend a lot of time rooting for the Brewers, Packers and other state and local teams. I also enjoy traveling and outdoor sports, especially hiking and fishing. Quality family time is essential in all I do.”
Lloyd looks forward to meeting each student, parent, grandparent, and community member of the Black Hawk School District. He encourages them to reach out to him in an email, phone call, or in person at the Aug. 26 open house — which is being held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
