Iowa woman dies after UTV crash

SOUTH WAYNE — An Iowa woman is dead following a UTV crash Monday night.

At 8:16 p.m. on Monday, August 17, South Wayne Fire, South Wayne First Response and Green County EMS responded to Fox Valley RD, Wayne Township for a UTV rollover crash with injuries.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Katherine M. Heimann, 22, Dubuque was operating a 2021 CanAm westbound on Fox Valley Road in eastern Lafayette County when she lost control causing the UTV to roll. Heimann and front passenger Chloe E. Scholtes, 23, of Bellevue, Iowa, were both ejected.

Scholtes was MedFlighted to Saint Mary’s Hospital for life threatening injuries sustained in the crash. The sheriff’s department was notified the next morning that Scholtes had died as a result of her injuries.

Heimann and the two juvenile males were also transported by ambulance to the SSM Health Monroe Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The juvenile males were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The 2021 CanAm received disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

There were no other injury updates of the other occupants of the UTV crash as of press time.

Browntown Fire, Warren Ambulance, UW MedFlight, and Wisconsin DNR assisted.

The Lafayette County Coroner’s Office is assisting the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in the ongoing investigation of the crash.

According to her obituary, Scholtes was close to earning a CNA certification. She was the mother of two sons. She is further survived by her parents and five siblings.

Earlier this year on May 30, Heimann was arrested and charged with first offense operating while intoxicated and child endangerment stemming from an incident in Dubuque County, Iowa. She had been given a $3,000 cash bond, according to court records. In a separate incident, Heimann’s 18-month-old child was hospitalized after being hit a UTV in a Gratiot campground earlier this year.

In February 2026, she was cited by Grant County (Wis.) deputies for operating without a valid license. In January 2024, she was cited for speeding 20-24 mph above the speed limit in Grant Counties, as well as underage transportation of alcohol. A year earlier, she was cited in Lafayette County for speeding 16-19 mph above the 55-mph limit.
