MONROE - The Monroe school district didn't have to go far in its search for the next principal at the high school.

Chris Medenwaldt of Brodhead was named Monroe High School principal after the school board voted unanimously Monday, April 8 to hire him.

Medenwaldt is serving as an assistant principal at Elkhorn Area High School. He was a teacher at Brodhead Middle School from 1996 to 2010 and served as the Brodhead High School girls basketball coach for 10 years.

"We are fortunate that Chris will be our next principal," Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner said. "He will definitely provide a wealth of knowledge, expertise and ability to provide a collaborative working environment and positive working relationships with students, families and staff. Chris has all the qualifications and certifications needed to fulfill his position."

The board interviewed two candidates for the position.

Medenwaldt will fill the position of principal Rick Waski starting July 1. Waski resigned to become district administrator in the Adams Friendship school district.

Also beginning new duties at the school July 1 will be Jeriamy Jackson, who was named assistant principal to replace Robin McLeish, who is retiring.
