MONROE - Monroe Arts Center will host a new Frehner Gallery exhibit on display from Friday through Nov. 28. The exhibit, "Seasons of the Sugar River: Backroads and Backwaters," showcases a variety of media and subject matter all relating to the Sugar River.

The exhibition is the result of an open call for artists to enter artwork in the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association's second annual juried exhibition. Artists were asked to create works inspired by those special "out of the way places" encountered on country roads and secluded backwaters of the river.

The artists' work encompasses the entire Sugar River Watershed from its headwaters in western Dane County to its confluence with the Pecatonica River in northern Illinois.

Artists selected to participate in the exhibit are: Steve Apfelbaum, David Aslesen, Jeanne Ausmus, Kathleen D'Angelo, Jan Douglas, Tina Duemler, Tom Gilbert, Audrey Hein, Kathy King, Jocelyn Kline, Jill Lazorchick-Sampson, Susan Lehnhardt, Larry McCoy, Chris Miles, Jan Norsetter, Georgene Pomplun, Bob Sampson, Cullen Sampson, Helen Stauffer, Jonathan Wilde and Bridget and Richard Zemlo.

Also on display during the opening reception on Nov. 7 will be a variety of displays and videos showcasing the LSRWA educational initiatives with local schools and their Citizen Science water monitoring programs.

An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in Frehner Gallery. A brief artist gallery talk begins at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

This exhibit has been made possible by MAC Corporate Underwriter Colony Brands Inc. and Season Media Underwriters Monroe Publishing LLC and Big Radio, with additional support from Michael and Shelley Muranyi, Kevin and Chris Callahan and Lee and Chris Knuteson.
