Monroe: American Red Cross providing help to families

MONROE - While volunteers from the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross service area remain on standby in case of area flooding, Disaster Action Team volunteers assisted the victims of house fires in Green County.

A family of five was devastated by a fatal fire in their Monroe home on Sunday, March 23. Two volunteers from the Janesville chapter office met with family members. The Red Cross is providing food, clothing, and sheltering assistance to the family. Assistance with medical needs, in addition to more personal needs, will also be provided.

On March 25, fire again displaced a family, this time in Albany. Volunteers from the local chapter again provided aid and comfort in the form of food, clothing, and temporary emergency shelter. Information on additional resources that lend support for long-term recovery is also provided.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from people. Donations enable the Red Cross to provide emergency shelter, food, counseling, and other assistance to those in need. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.

Donations to the American Red Cross are tax deductible and can be specifically designated to local or national disasters. Contact the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross at (608) 754-4497 to make a donation to support the work of the Red Cross.
