HOLMEN — Darlington junior Josie Thomas shot a 30-over-par 101 at the WIAA Division 2 sectional at Drugan’s Castle Mound Oct. 6.
Thomas was the only Redbird that qualified for the meet and finished 31st overall. She parred the fourth and ninth holes on the front nine, both par 4s. On back-to-back holes on the back nine, Thomas also shot par — on the par 5 11th and par 3 12th holes. She also parred the par 3 14th. A couple of bad holes doomed her day. She shot +5 on the par 5 7th and par 4 16th holes.
Lakeside Lutheran’s Maya Heckmann won the sectional with a 5-over-par 76, one shot ahead of Edgewood’s Caitlyn Hegenbarth, who will make her fourth state appearance. Edgewood won the team title with a score of 341, with Lakeside Lutheran’s 363 also advancing to state.
The 49th WIAA girls state golf championship will take place Oct. 12-13 at The Meadows Valley Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler. Edgewood has won back-to-back state championships in Division 2.
