MADISON — The Rock County Fury dropped a 7-1 affair to top-ranked Madison Metro Lynx Dec. 16.
The Lynx outshot the Fury 24-4 in the first period alone, but the two teams went into the first intermission separated by a 2-1 score.
After the Lynx scored twice in the first 5:20 of the period, Emma Kilgora of the Fury put her team on the board with 2:17 to play in the first.
In the second, the Lynx received two goals from Anna Faulkner, then added three more in the third for good measure. In all, the Lynx outshot Rock County 54-11.
Up next, the Fury will play a pair of games at the Chippewa Falls tournament Dec. 28-29.
Baraboo 2, Monroe 1
BARABOO — The Cheesemakers dropped to 1-10 overall as the host Thunderbirds scored twice in the final five minutes of the third period to flip the script and win.
Seth Brand scored Monroe’s first goal off an assist from Josh Haight midway through the first period. The two teams skated scoreless over the next 39 minutes. With 3:59 left in regulation, Gabe Fitzwilliams scored the equalizer for Baraboo.
Right after play resumed, Haight was penalized for high-sticking. The Thunderbirds capitalized on their golden opportunity, with Carson Zick lighting the lamp for a power play goal with just 2:17 remaining. The Cheesemakers were unable to put the puck in the net to tie.
Xander Obert finished the night with 20 saves for Monroe. The Cheesemakers out-shot Baraboo 30-22 overall.
Monroe was slated to host Kenosha Dec. 21, then will play on back-to-back days Dec. 30-31 at the Stoughton Holiday Tournament.
