CLINTON — The Clinton Cougars made two runs in the first inning hold up as they defeated the Brodhead Cardinals 2-1 in RVC-Rock softball on Thursday, April 16.
Starting pitcher Andie Bell of Clinton out-dueled Mady Henning of Brodhead to get the win. The Cougars got their two runs in the first inning while the Cardinals got a lone run in the fifth inning. Kinsley Krumwiede, Karli Krumwiede, Keegan Steinke, and Elise Rear got the only base hits in the game for Brodhead. Natalie Pierce drove in the only run of the game for the Cardinals.
Henning took a tough-luck loss for Brodhead giving up two runs on eight hits. Henning walked none and struck out four.
Brodhead (4-1-1, 3-1 RVC-Rock) had a home nonconference game against Dodgeville scheduled on Monday, April 20.
Pecatonica 3, Argyle-Black Hawk 1
BLANCHARDVILLE — A two-run third inning carried the Pecatonica Vikings to a 3-1 win over Argyle-Black Hawk in Six Rivers Conference softball on Thursday, April 16.
The Vikings got two runs in the third inning to go up 2-0. Argyle-Black Hawk chipped into the lead with a run in the third, but the Vikings got an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to hold on for the win.
Brooklynn Johnsrud was 1x4 with a double and an RBI for Pec. Tatum Kurschner was 2x3 with a double, a run scored, and a stolen base. Katelynne Jorenby was 1x3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI for the Vikings. Kiaya York was 3x3 at the plate for Pecatonica. Sam Hittesdorf pitched all seven innings to get the win. Hittesdorf gave up six hits, no earned runs, no walks and seven strikeouts.
Argyle-Black Hawk was led by Lexi Wonders, who was 2x3 and by Claire Holmes who scored the Orioles lone run.
Pecatonica (2-5, 2-2) continued with Six Rivers Conference action with a home game scheduled on Monday, April 20 against River Ridge and a game at Barneveld on Tuesday, April 21.
Argyle-Black Hawk traveled to Potosi-Cassville for a Six Rivers game on Monday, April 20.
Fennimore 17, Darlington 1
FENNIMORE — The Fennimore Golden Eagles scored runs in bunches as they whipped the Darlington Redbirds 17-1 in five innings in SWAL softball on Thursday, April 16.
The Redbirds were able to get only three hits, but got one of those hits in the first inning by Maicy Norgard, who scored the Redbirds’ lone run. The other two hits came from Lilly Ritchie and Sydney Wiegel.
Fennimore answered with eight runs in the first inning, plus three runs in the third, and six in the fourth.
Darlington (2-5, 0-3 SWAL) had a SWAL conference game scheduled at home on Monday, April 20 against Riverdale followed by followed another conference game on Thursday, April 23 at Cuba City.
