SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk proved home-field advantage is real, scoring 80 team points in its Quad with Albany, Monroe and Stockton on Tuesday, March 28.
Lane Marty scored the most points among all Warriors, taking first in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. He finished with times of 17.88 and 46.03 seconds, respectively.
Mya Milz and Raylin Peterson scored 10 points each with a first- and second-place finish. As she has in the last two meets, Peterson excelled at shot put, her farthest throw 37-00.50. Peterson then used her legs for speed, taking second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.32 seconds. Mya Milz took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.43 seconds and used that same speed to propel herself to a 13-03.50 leap in the long jump.
Andrew Figi also took second place in the boys long jump, recording a distance of 16-09.50. He earned another four points with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash, Jovanny Erickson edged Noah Hess of Stockton by 0.25 seconds for first place.
The Warriors also had two first-place relays. The girls 4x200 relay of Mya Milz, Peterson, Ellie Edler and Maddy Lange finished with a time of 2:05.44, while the boys 4x200 squad of Erickson, Figi, Lucas Milz and Teegan Sweeney finished in 1:43.52.
With a split squad — its top three in each event competing at the Pioneer Invite at UW-Platteville — Monroe put up 76.5 team points. It was a perfect opportunity for varsity reserves and JV to gain more experience.
Brooke Bunker led the way with ten points. She finished second in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles to Stockton’s Lilly Sikora. Bunker recorded times of 20.59 and 59.25 seconds, respectively. She was also Monroe’s top finisher in the long jump with a leap of 11-10.00.
Eloise Maire represented the Lady Cheese in the distance events. She finished the 400-meter dash in 1:24.09 and the 800-meter run in 3:25.04. Both times gave Maire third place.
Taylor Herbst paced the boys squad with his second-place finish in the shot put. His farthest throw went 38-03.00. Brother Peyton Herbst finished just behind him in third with a throw of 37-05.00.
Gavin Foulker tallied five points for Monroe took third in the 200-meter dash. He was one of four runners to finish within a second of each other — Foulker 26.25 seconds, Black Hawk’s Teegan Sweeney 26.69 seconds, Stockton’s Dawson Broshous 26.67 seconds and Monroe’s Braedyn Nally 26.94 seconds. Foulker’s remaining two points came from a fourth-place finish in the long jump. He recorded a distance of 15-05.50.
Albany scored 87.5 team points with five individual first-place finishes.
After a successful cross country season, Ava Ahnen and McKenna Broughton represented the Lady Comets in long-distance events. Ahnen ran the 800-meter race in 2:42.95 seconds, while Broughton clocked a 6:19.32 mile (1600 meters).
Bryce Hughes and Gage Roth finished one and two in the 400-meter dash with times of 55.91 and 56.63 seconds, respectively. Albany boys also had success in the 800-meter run with a first-place finish from Jayden O’Bel. He finished in a time of 2:20.37.
Caleb Smith was the fifth individual champion, recording a throw of 39-11.50 in the shot put.
