MONONA - The Monroe volleyball team's 27-match Badger South losing streak is history. The Cheesemakers upended Monona Grove in four games Tuesday night, winning 15-25, 25-19, 25-20, 26-24.
Monroe junior Taylor Barrett had 11 kills and four blocks to propel the Cheesemakers to the win.
"The losing streak we have been on is broken," Monroe coach Danya Ward aid. "We can hopefully work on it from here and get better and be a contender in the conference in the near future. They have a lot to work on. It's a stepping stone."
Monroe junior Savannah Koester had a team-high 13 assists and she delivered four aces. Senior Heather Barta added 11 assists. Koester's roll as a setter was key as Kayla Updike was ill.
"Savannah did a great job of stepping up," Ward said.
After dropping the first set, the Cheesemakers (10-20, 1-10 Badger South) won three straight.
"I think they started talking more," Ward said. "They played mentally and physically tough. They stepped it up and I think they realized the season is coming to a close."
Senior Becca Armstrong had eight kills and junior Whitney Disch added two blocks.
