Ernest “Ernie” Wyssbrod, Sr.

Ernest “Ernie” Wyssbrod, Sr., age 85, of Woodford passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.  He was born on February 28, 1939 the son of John and Rose (Stiffler) Wyssbrod.  He graduated from Winslow High School in 1957.  After high school, Ernie entered into the trades where he earned his license in cheesemaking and butter-making. On November 12, 1960 Ernest married Karen Rodebaugh in Dubuque, IA. 

Ernie was the owner and operator of Springbrook Cheese near Rock Grove, IL and later Stuart Cheese Factory near Wiota, for many years.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing cards.  However, his greatest joy was found in the time spent with his children and grandchildren, whether cheering them on at sporting events, supporting their involvement in racing, or sharing his own love for racing go-carts.

Ernest is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Karen; children, Corrina (Alan) Kaiser, Tina (David) Mayer, Ernest Jr. “Butch” (Connie) Wyssbrod, and Brenda (Jon) Wyssbrod; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Karon (Karl) Scheider; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Randall, John, and Roger; sister, Diane; and brothers-in-law, Jake and Duane Rodebaugh. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe at 5:00 PM with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating.  A private family burial will be held at a later date in Lily Cemetery in Winslow.
