CUBA CITY — Darlington made the short trip to Cole Acres on Sept. 23 for the SWC Conference Meet, taking fifth in the 5-team competition.
Wisconsin Dells took the team title thanks to a 409 team score ahead of Lancaster (432) and Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton (433) in a shootout for runner up. The Redbirds’ 479 saw them fall nearly 40 strokes short of 4th-placed Prairie du Chien.
The Flying Arrows’ Margot Dhyanchand carded a 92 to earn medalist honors just ahead of Camryn Knapp (PdC, 94). Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ Olivia Hilgemann was the first of two members of the title-winning team inside the top five as she shot a 96 to tie for third with Ell Addie (SW/CC/B). Emmy Walker (WD) rounded out best five golfers just one stroke back at 97.
Adeline Riechers retained her spot as Darlington’s season-long top golfer as she shot a 108, tying her with two others at eighth on the day. Sarina Ford (117) and Anyka Johnson (122) followed at 15th and in a two-way tie for 17th, respectively. Closing out the Redbirds’ efforts were Rose Gruetzmacher (24th, 132) and Clara McElrath (25th, 139).
Girls golf is the first fall sport to hit its postseason, and Darlington’s next stop is a trip to a WIAA Division 2 Regional in Evansville on Sept. 30.
