Ena Mae Schuetz, age 93 of Monroe entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Monroe Health Service. She was the youngest child of Herman and Julia (Mueller) Maeder, born on February 12, 1930. Ena loved growing up in the country going squirrel hunting with her brother Johnny, feeding farm animals, and learning to throw a baseball. Ena and her mom spent many happy hours picking wild berries, grapes, plums, and apples enjoying time outdoors together. Ena learned to make delicious fruit pies and jellies from her mom. She graduated from Freeport High School. After high school Ena received her degree in cosmetology. Ena worked for 13 years at the New Art Salon in Freeport. During this time, she bowled on a team and enjoyed many bus trips across the US and Canada with her sister, Gertie. Ena married Albert Schuetz on April 20, 1963 at St. John’s in Monroe, and became a dairy farm wife for the next 26 years.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, square dancing, nature and wildlife, reading, gardening, and canning. She and Albert were blessed with a long retirement during which they rode bikes on area trails, visited many state parks, traveled with family to Colorado and Tennessee and watched their only grandchild grow into a wonderful young man.
Ena’s kind and gentle spirit will be carried on by daughters, Julie Ann (Allen) Eells of Brodhead and Amy Dawn (Matthew) Williams of Beloit; and beloved grandson, Jakob T. (Lizzy Geise) Williams of Beloit. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and two special friends, Gloria Maurer and Mary Thorson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Albert in 2017; brother, John; and sister, Gertrude Leiby.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Reverend Tiff Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Hawthorn Cemetery.
