Highway driving

TOWN OF MONROE — A teenage driver from Monroe was injured in a rollover crash July 12 just west of the city after checking his phone, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Luis R. Munoz Garcia, 16, was westbound in the W6900 block of Smock Valley Road at about 10:45 p.m. when he looked at his phone and failed to negotiate a curve, deputies reported.

The vehicle entered the north ditch, hit a power pole and overturned. It landed on its roof.

Munoz Garcia was transported by ambulance from the scene for further medical evaluation. The vehicle sustained severe damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed.

Munoz Garcia was cited for inattentive driving. Green County EMS, the Monroe Fire Department and Alliant Energy assisted deputies on scene.
