1960 photo of the Monticello Fire Department’s first “Rescue Squad” truck. 

The truck was purchased as a used vehicle and was a laundry/uniform service truck before fire department members converted it “to a people mover with a few shelves installed.”

Pictured on the left, Edward H. Quade (1923—1976). After serving 2 years with the 448th Military Police Unit in Iceland, Mr. Quade began employment with the Wisconsin Power and Light Co., with which he remained for 31 years. Along time Monticello resident, Ed was a member of the Amstutz-Marty Post 256 of the American Legion and member of the Monticello Fire Department.

On the right, Dean. R. Zimmerman (1928-1986) A 1946 graduate of Monticello High School, he attended Madison Area Technical College. Mr. Zimmerman served two periods with the U.S. Marine Corps. A lifelong Monticello resident, Mr. Zimmerman was a master plumber and owner of Zimmerman Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Amstutz-Marty Post 256 of the American Legion, the Community Club and Monticello Professional and Business Association. A 40-year member of the Monticello Fire Department, Dean served as fire chief for several of those years.

The Monticello Fire Department was formed on September 19, 1892 and has been proudly serving the Monticello Area for nearly 133 years.
