New Glarus 42, SW/ED 13
NEW GLARUS — The D5 sixth-ranked Glarner Knights capped Homecoming week with a solid victory over the winless Warcats on Oct. 2.
New Glarus collected 385 yards of offense while holding Southwestern/East Dubuque to 225. QB Quinn Marty was 7-for-13 passing for 175 yards, four touchdowns and an interception, then added another 23 yards on the ground. In all, five different Knights carried the ball for a collective 210 yards. Carson Prechel had 10 totes for 74 yards and two TDs. Brady Baer gained 62 yards on seven carries, and Brent Weeden averaged 7.8 yards per carry on four tries. Tucker Sysko finished with two catches for a team-high 107 yards and two TDs. Brayden Schmitt and Brock Weeden also had touchdown receptions. Brock Weeden added an interception on defense. Noah Garcia led New Glarus defensively with 12 tackles, including two for a loss and two sacks.
Belleville 40, Waterloo 13
WATERLOO — The Wildcats, ranked ninth in Division 6, dominated the first half in Week 7 to keep on track for the Eastern Suburban Conference title.
Belleville (6-1, 5-0) scored 20 points in the first quarter and led 27-0 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats were ahead 40-0 over the host Pirates (1-6, 0-5).
Rayden Taylor had 111 yards passing with three TDs, plus another 118 yards rushing on nine carries with another score. Jackson Fahey added 51 yards and a score. Tyler Miyamoto had five catches for 88 yards and three scores. Defensively, Marcus Hebgen had 11 tackles, four for a loss, and a sack. Miyamoto intercepted a pass and Dylan Kremer had a fumble recovery for a TD. Belleville held Waterloo to 171 yards of offense.
With Cambridge (5-2, 4-1) defeating 10th-ranked Pardeeville (6-1, 4-1) the same night, Belleville now holds a full game lead in the race for the conference title. The Wildcats host Marshall (3-4, 1-4) in Week 8 and can clinch a share of the league championship with a win. Belleville then will travel to Pardeeville in Week 9.
Parkview/Albany 18, Johnson Creek 14
ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings picked up their second win of the season and kept their playoff hopes alive with their victory over the Blue Jays (2-5, 2-3 Trailways) in Week 7.
Parkview/Albany (2-5, 2-3 Trailways) had 349 yards of offense, including rumbling for 279 on the ground. Louis Nath led the way with 106 yards and two scores on just seven carries (15.1 ypc), while Elijah Gunn added 126 yards and a score on 11 attempts (11.5 ypc). QB Connor Knutson had 14 rushing yards and 70 passing yards, with Nath the main target, catching five passes for 60 additional yards.
Defensively, Peter Roth had a team-high 11 tackles (7 solo) and the team’s only tackle-for-loss. Gunn intercepted a pass, Roth and Carter Abrahamson forced fumbles, and Roth and Sawyer Carr each recovered a fumble.
The Vikings have a path to the playoffs and can clinch a guaranteed playoff berth with two more wins. A tough task awaits in Week 8 against D7 No. 7 Lourdes Academy (6-1, 4-1), with Deerfield (1-6, 1-4) on tap for Week 9.
Potosi/Cassville 33, Pecatonica/Argyle 27
ARGYLE — Homecoming in Argyle nearly claimed a massive upset for the Vikings, instead, Potosi/Cassville came away with the game-winning score with just 2:14 to play during their Week 7 Six Rivers Conference game.
Pec/Argyle had two late scores in the second quarter to rally from 15 points down to make it 21-19 at the half. Then, with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter, the Vikings knotted it all up at 27 thanks to an 82-yard kickoff return from Braydon Slater.
Hunter White scored the game’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run for PC.
Pec/Argyle had a first quarter score on a QB dive from Martin Anderson. PC’s Bradly Retallick made it 21-6 in the second quarter on a pick-6. The Vikings then countered with a 65-yard TD pass from Anderson to Bo Stateler. Stateler then caught a four-yard pass for a score with just five seconds left in the half to bring it to 21-19.
The final offensive statistics show just how even the matchup was. PC out-gained Pec/Argyle in yardage 355-351, and the Chieftains snagged the only turnover of the game.
Anderson was 14 of 21 passing for 214 yards. He added another 82 yards on the ground on eight carries. RB Brock Erickson tallied 55 yards on 17 totes. Slater had four catches for 95 yards, while Stateler tallied 115 yards on eight catches.
Five different Vikings were credited with 10 or more tackles, with Layton Gruenenfelder collecting the most (12). Reid Schlimgen (10 tackles, 5 solo) had a sack and the team’s only TFL.
Richland Center 34, Brodhead/Juda 16
RICHLAND CENTER — Grayson Arn had 232 rushing yards and two TDs for the Cardinals, but it wasn’t enough against the Hornets in Week 7.
QB Kraig Walter was 7-for-20 passing for 34 yards with an interception.
