PLATTEVILLE — In the crisp morning air, area cross country teams took part in the annual Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational on Oct. 3.
Monroe’s girls cross country team finished second in the large school division, while the boys team was second. Darlington girls were third in the small school division, and the Albany boys took second place as a team.
For Monroe, Braylin Cleary was 12th overall in the girls race with a time of 19:34.0. Alivia Mosher (27th, 20:29.8), Maryella Green (32nd, 20:49.0), Annika Folk (39th, 21:02.4) and Elizabeth Veeder (44th, 21:08.3) all scored for the Cheesemakers.
On the boys side, Ace Rossing was seventh overall (16:35.1). Also scoring for Monroe was Eli Phillips (18th, 17:11.8), Isaiah Ritschard (37th, 17:46.3), Kamrin Gerber-Reamer (40th, 17:54.1) and Lucas Veeder (54th, 18:08.7).
For Albany, which was fourth in the small school standings, Emersen Butts was 33th overall (20:52.9). The boys team was led by Noah Lisser (21st, 17:18.2) and Kamden Broughton (25th, 17:24.4). Brooks Wachholz (39th, 17: 53.0) also broke the 18-minute mark.
New Glarus-Monticello freshman Sadie Mitchell was 13th overall between all divisions at 19:34.1. Dylan Gardner was 27th (18:00.5) in the boys race. The Knights finished eighth in the girls large school standings and the boys were ninth.
Darlington girls finished third in the small school division, with the boys taking ninth. Redbird sophomore Alaina McGowan (18:36.5) was fourth overall for the girls, while Marcus Kendall (17:35.4) finished 33rd.
Belleville’s top running girl was sophomore Kate Hendrickson (40th, 21:04.2), while Carson Biermeier (42nd, 17:55.4) paced the boys. The Wildcats finished eighth in the small school division for both boys and girls.
For Argyle/Pecatonica, which was 10th in the girls race, Sophie Howard was the first to cross the finish line at 22:57.2. On the boys side, Ayden Slater (18:45.3) was 80th overall as the boys AP squad was 11th in the small school standings.
Brodhead/Juda was 15th for the girls in the large school standings, and 13th in the boys. Olivia Brooks paced the girls at 20:48.3, good enough for 31st overall. Ashton Henze (19:03.3) led the Cardinals on the boys side and took 93rd overall.
Up next for Monroe, Brodhead-Juda, Darlington, New Glarus-Monticello and Belleville is the annual Albany Baerstchi Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10. The following week is a slew of conference championship meets, with Monroe and Brodhead-Juda running in the RVC meet Oct. 15 in Whitewater, and Argyle-Pecatonica, Darlington and Albany at the SWAL championship the same day at Boscobel. Belleville and New Glarus-Monticello will run at the Capitol Conference meet on Oct. 17 at Fort Atkinson.
