Azura plans free dementia education series

MONROE — Azura Memory Care is holding a two-part Dementia Series event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish Church, 1760 14th St., Monroe and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at St. John’s UCC Church, 1724 14th St., Monroe.

The first part of the series Sept. 5 will welcome Former Governor of Wisconsin Marty Schreiber as he discusses his personal caregiving journey for his wife, Elaine, who has Alzheimer’s disease. 

He lovingly tells their story in the acclaimed “My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver.” Schreiber’s book will be available for sale. All proceeds benefit Alzheimer’s caregiver support programs. 

Suzanne Bottum-Jones, MA, BSN, will be the speaker for the second part of the series Sept. 12. Bottum-Jones is a Registered Nurse with over 15 years of experience working with the management of behaviors and psychological symptoms associated with dementia, brain injury and other forms of cognitive impairment. 

She is a nationally recognized speaker, behavioral consultant, educator and advocate who works to encourage health professionals and care givers to include behavioral strategies designed to move beyond pharmacologic only interventions.
