A large barb to Brian Gray >for writing the Jackson County death story the way he did. Although I agree that the situation was completely tragic and shocking, there are still family and close friends in the area who are dealing with the loss also. You couldn't be impartial while reporting the facts? Just because he graduated from Brodhead didn't make him any worse of a person and it really showed poor judgment on your part Mr. Gray, a former Brodhead graduate yourself. - Brodhead Grad>
A blossom to the kind woman in Dick's parking lot >who gave me a beautiful crocheted turkey pin. You mentioned that you "like to see people happy." Thank you for spreading happiness. You are a shining example of why people shop, work and live in Green County. - Cara Carper>
A blossom to all the states, counties, etc., >who ban the use of handheld phones, etc., while driving. Please, Wisconsin, wake up!
A blossom to the smoke-free states. >Imagine the pleasure of avoiding the "poison" and having smoke-free clothes. When will Wisconsin come to life?
A barb to our Wisconsin Legislature and tavern league >for only thinking of money and not protecting the innocent lives of us and all travelers. How embarrassing to be asked while traveling where we live. Oh, the state with the highest rate of drunken driving in the nation. Aren't you afraid to live there? Our whole problem is Wisconsin is the ONLY STATE in the nation to treat first-offense drunken driving as a traffic ticket and not a crime. Also, we rank third lowest in the nation of beer taxes. Also, we read about the sixth and seventh offenses and they are still driving. What's wrong with Wisconsin? Moderation is OK and excess is deadly. We have so much in Wisconsin to be proud of, but not our drunks and the support of them. Wisconsin is really a dangerous, unhealthy place to breathe and live. Before we expect visitors here, we need to clean up our act. - Lorraine Schlappe McGinnis, Monroe>
A barb against the Brodhead United Methodist Church. >Several years ago, they tore down an 1865 brick Italianate style house on Center Avenue north of the church. Now they are tearing down another architecturally significant house on West 2nd Avenue west of the church. Also, another barb against the Brodhead Historic Preservation Commission and the Brodhead City Council
for letting them get away with it. There are two more houses in the proposed Brodhead North Residential Historic District that are contributing and slated for destruction. The Brodhead North Residential Historic District was deemed eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, but with so many houses either being destroyed or mucked up, it may no longer be eligible because the Brodhead Historic Preservation Commission will not do its job. - Dave Searles, Brodhead>
