VOLLEYBALL: Pec just gets by Albany

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica's volleyball team needed a rally Thursday to improve to 6-1 in the Six Rivers East.

The Vikings prevailed in a five-set thriller over Albany, 18-25, 25-29, 22-25, 25-19, 15-8.

Senior hitter Brittany Kent pounded out 20 kills, 13 digs and a pair of blocks for the Vikings. Teammate Morgan Pien had 18 assists and classmate Sam Vamstad was a perfect 20-for-20 in serving, with a pair of aces.

For Albany (3-3 Six Rivers), Courtney Pfeuti had 25 assists, Sydney Bump tallied three blocks and four aces, Clare Koopmans had 28 digs, Devan Brugger slammed 11 kills and Rachel Ruef added four aces.

MONTICELLO 3, ARGYLE 1

ARGYLE - In a tight Six Rivers matchup, it was the Ponies (1-3 Six Rivers East) who came out on top over the Orioles, 27-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20.

Courtney Ostby had 13 kills, three aces and three blocks for Argyle (1-4 conference).

BLACK HAWK 3, BARNEVELD 0

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors (7-0 Six Rivers East) continued their winning ways, pounding out a sweep over Barneveld (2-4), 25-13, 25-13, 25-20.

Black Hawk's Gabi Lehrner had 16 assists, six kills, and was 16 of 17 from the service line. Kim Wellnitz had eight kills, five blocks, four aces and was 12 of 13 from beyond the service line. Alyssa Piefer had nine kills, two assists, and was 15-of 16 from the service line, and Paige Butler had 11 kills.

Barneveld's Brooke Allen had four kills and Caitlin Jordee added three blocks.

BRODHEAD 3, PALMYRA-EAGLE 0

PALMYRA - The Cardinals improved to 4-0 in the Rock Valley South with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 sweep of Palmyra-Eagle (1-2 RVC South).

Courtney Mielke had 14 kills and five digs for injury-depleted Brodhead. Teammate Cassie Wymer had 24 assists and a pair of aces, and Jordan Riese had a pair of blocks in the win.
