MONROE - The Monroe softball team made a run to the state tournament without a first-team Badger South All-Conference player.

However, the Cheesemakers had several players recognized as all-conference performers. Monroe sophomore pitcher Becca Armstrong was a second-team all-conference pitcher. Two other Cheesemaker players were named to the second team, including infielder Kristin McArdle and freshman outfielder Chandra McGuire.

Monroe finished the season 17-11 and lost 10-0 to Baldwin-Woodville in a WIAA Division 2 state semifinal game at Goodman Diamond in Madison. Armstrong compiled a record of 17-9 and she pitched four shutouts and had a 2.05 ERA. She averaged a little more than a strikeout an inning with 177 strikeouts on the season.

McArdle was the Cheesemakers' leading hitter (.398) and had a team-high five triples. McArdle, who had 22 RBIs, was a catalyst in helping the Cheesemakers make their fifth state appearance in the last nine years.

McGuire served as the Cheesemakers' leadoff hitter throughout the season and excelled at getting on base. McGuire hit .315 in her first year on the varsity and she had a team-high 10 doubles. McGuire had one home run, 16 RBIS and scored 21 runs.

Monroe had three players receive honorable mention all-conference including catcher Kaylee Craigo, shortstop Kelsey Erickson and Alyssa Montgomery.
