BLANCHARDVILLE - Like a holiday parade with a strict agenda, Monroe's Home Talent Baseball team stormed through Blanchardville with a 12-2 bruising of the Bullets Monday.
The Western Section rout was fueled by Sunday's thrilling 8-5 victory, also on the road, over Richland Center. Second baseman Adam Siegenthaler propelled Monroe to a come-from-behind win with a 3-run bomb that reclaimed the lead at 6-5 in the top of the ninth.
Tim Ritschard and Adam Scherer set the table with walks before Siegenthaler went yard. Player-managers Rooney Janecke and Lon Scheuerell followed with RBI-hits to cap a 5-run rally from which Richland Center would not recover.
Despite allowing four runs in the top of the eighth, Nick Budden got the win in relief for Monroe while Ben Korth struck out two batters in the ninth to get the save.
"He just shut them down, went 1-2-3," Janecke said.
Monroe starter Cody Boals was lights-out, fanning 14 batters over seven innings, but was saddled with a no-decision. Scheuerell finished 3-for-5 while Siegenthaler went 2-for-3 and added a double.
The Orioles of Argyle and Indians of Wiota also swept their weekend sets. Argyle defeated Dodgeville and Ridgeway, 4-2 and 10-0, respectively. Wiota got past Hollandale, 4-3 on Sunday behind a two-out RBI-single in the sixth inning by Brad Schliem. The Indians rode the tide to an 18-2 pounding of New Glarus on Monday. The Tourists were coming off a 2-0 victory over Blanchardville Sunday during which Kyle Spurley threw a complete-game two-hitter, fanning 15 for New Glarus.
