DARLINGTON - Pecatonica junior Britt Miller went 3-for-4 with a home run to propel the Vikings to a 3-2 win over Darlington Friday.

Pecatonica senior Emily Scoville pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on five hits. She struck out six and walked six.

Darlington's Tara Reichling was just as impressive as Scoville. Reichling pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on seven hits. She struck out seven and walked two.

"Tara Reichling pitched an outstanding game," Darlington coach Karen Bennett said. "The one error we had in the seventh would have put us in extra innings, but we definitely can't put the blame on that error."

After scoring one run in the fourth inning, the Redbirds left the bases loaded. Darlington's Callie Norton finished 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI.

"We had chances to score, but failed to do it," Bennett said. "We just couldn't adjust to Scoville's pitching. I like what I am seeing each game though. We are definitely improving each game."

Monticello 9, Benton-Shullsburg 0

MONTICELLO - Senior Courtney Leuzinger pitched a no-hitter for six innings and the Ponies got some clutch hitting to knock off Benton-Shullsburg 9-0 Friday.

Monticello senior Brooke Bidlingmaier went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Ponies. Monticello senior Samantha DeVoe went 2-for-3 with a double and triple and senior Alyssah Kubly was 2-for-3.

The Ponies (4-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) led 2-0 going into the fifth inning, but broke the game open scoring five runs after two outs.

"Our top six hitters are really hitting the ball hard and with two outs that is a really good sign," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said.

Leuzinger pitched six no-hit innings. She struck out eight and walked eight. Monticello sophomore Jessie Garrison pitched a shutout seventh and gave up just a single to Lily Carver who broke the no-hit bid.

Leuzinger and Garrison combined walked 10.

"We have to keep working to cut down the extra and free bases," Garrison said.

The Ponies turned inning-ending double plays in the sixth and seventh.
