Panthers roll to two wins

JUDA - Sophomore Hailey Kammerer had six hits to lead Juda-Albany to two wins in its tournament on Saturday in Juda.

Juda-Albany (17-5, 12-0 Six Rivers East), ranked No. 2 in the WisSports.net Division 4 coaches' poll, beat Stockton 12-3 in five innings and then shut don Brodhead 10-0 in six innings. Kammerer went 4-for-4 with two RBI against Stockton. Junior teammate Sara Jordan also had a big game against Stockton going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Panthers. Sophomore teammate Nicki Becker pitched four two-hit innings to get the win. She struck out 10 and walked just one. Jordan pitched one inning in relief and struck out two. She gave up three runs on two hits.

In the second game, the Panthers broke the game open against Brodhead with an eight-run third inning. Kammerer went 2-for-3 and junior Chelsea Burkhalter was 2-for-4 with a double.

Becker pitched six innings to get the win. She tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 11.

"We have really been hitting the ball well lately," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We have really been picking it up."

Becker continued her strong run of success this season with 21 strikeouts and a run of 18 straight innings without giving up a run.

"Nicki has really been on," Davis said. "When we get the opportunities the defense has really played well behind her."

Brodhead defeated Monticello 4-1 in its other game. Brodhead junior Michelle Loeffelholz had two RBI. Brodhead sophomore Azzy Steiner and junior Ali Rosheisen each walked twice. The Cardinals managed just four hits against Monticello junior pitcher Jessie Garrison. The Cardinals won despite committing five errors.

Steiner pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up one run on three hits. Steiner struck out six and walked one. Garrison pitched a complete game and gave up four runs on four hits. She struck out three and walked four.
