Oregon brings its 'A' game against Rieder

OREGON - The Cheesemakers baseball team had a little bit of a hangover after Monday's walk-off loss to Milton.

Oregon routed Monroe 12-0 in five innings Tuesday.

"I think you have to point to the Milton game a little bit," Cheesemakers head coach Dustin Huffman said. "Some of our players were a little tentative out there tonight."

Oregon scored five unearned runs in the first inning off starter Kris Rieder.

"They had a guy on third with one out and they lined a ball that got right by our third baseman. The runner already committed to home, so if he catches that, he tags third and we get out of the inning clean. It might be a whole new ball game," Huffman said.

Oregon scored two runs in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth. Panthers pitcher Matt Marszalek threw a one-hitter, including seven strikeouts and six walks. Rieder got Monroe's only hit in the second inning.

"(Marszalek) pitched well. Our swings just weren't working well tonight," Huffman said.

Huffman also said that Rieder was off of his game on the mound. Monroe's senior ace allowed six hits, four walks and 10 runs (five earned) in three innings. Cory Kundert pitched the fourth.

Monroe (5-3, 3-2 Badger South) hosts Stoughton Thursday.
