NG rolls; Pec edges Monticello

NEW GLARUS - After leading 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Glarner Knights went on a 19-4 run in the second to spark a dominating Senior Night win Friday over Waterloo, 54-29.

Senior guard Michelle Preston scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, and senior forward Tanya Gruter had 15. Sophomore Lauren Narveson added nine.

The Knights hit 20 field goals and were 7 of 12 from the free-throw line.

New Glarus outscored Waterloo 16-8 in the third to put the game out of reach.

Pecatonica 53, Monticello 52

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings had three players in double figures and erased an 8-point halftime deficit Friday to knock off the Ponies.

Alisha Esselstein scored 18 points to lead Pecatonica. Kimee Chandler had 14, and Megan Rindy hit three 3s for 13 points. Kaci Cassidy scored on a layup with a minute to go to give the Vikings the one-point lead.

Taylor Pfeuti scored a game-high 22 points for Monticello, and Kelsey Bernet added 11.

Pecatonica led 15-13 after the first quarter but trailed 30-22 at the break. A 20-10 run in the third put the Vikings ahead big.

Monticello trailed by as many as five in the fourth before rallying to tie it up. Pecatonica missed two free throws with under 20 seconds remaining, but the Ponies fell short on two shots before the final buzzer.

Fennimore 62, Darlington 29

DARLINGTON - The Braves shot down the Redbirds from the start.

Fennimore (17-3, 10-2 SWAL) jumped on top 16-10 after the first quarter and led 32-15 at halftime. A 30-14 run in the second half kept the Redbirds (5-12, 3-8) out of the game.

Ashley Martin led Darlington with 11 points.
