Monticello's late rally falls short

SHULLSBURG - The Monticello girls basketball team stormed back from a 10-point halftime deficit, but couldn't pull off the comeback in a 41-38 loss to Shullsburg Monday night.

Mont-icello (0-4, 0-1 Six Rivers East) shot just 3 of 12 from the foul line.

The Ponies outscored the Miners 14-10 in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 30-24 entering the fourth quarter.

Monticello senior Mersadi Hilliard scored a game-high 16 points, which included three 3-pointers. Taylor Pfeuti added 11 points for the Ponies.

Argyle 37, Benton 30

BENTON - The Argyle girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season, 37-30 over Benton Monday night.

Argyle (1-2, 0-1) outscored the Zephyrs 7-4 in the first quarter and built a 17-12 halftime lead.

Argyle hit 12 of 18 free throws to help the Orioles win the game.
