PRAIRIE DU SAC - Monroe junior golfer Nick Baumann shot a 7-over-par 77 and entered a playoff with a fourth-place finish on the line at the Lake Wisconsin Invitational on Monday.
Baumann lost the playoff to DeForest's Max Unger and settled for fifth place.
"It was good to see him in the 70s, but he still wasn't happy with parts of his game," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "We look for him to improve as the year goes on and get that score even lower."
Middleton's Emmet Herb shot a 4-over-par 74 to take medalist honors.
Monroe shot a 322 to take third place in the 11-team meet. Madison Memorial edged Middleton for the title 315-316.
Monroe freshman Jack Rogerson shot an 80, and Collyn Wilde carded an 81. Senior Tanner Thompson rounded out the top four for the Cheesemakers, shooting an 84.
"We are not very happy with not winning," Rindy said. "Considering the level of competition there we felt good about being towards the top of the pack. Middleton and Memorial are really good programs. We look forward to proving ourselves in the upcoming matches."
ArgYle-Pec CLAIMs second
ARGYLE - Argyle-Pecatonica placed second in a SWAL mini-meet, falling short by three strokes to winner Mineral Point at the Yellowstone Golf Course.
