JANESVILLE - Monroe's girls cross country team finished second overall in the frosh/soph race at the Midwest Invite for the second year in a row, finishing ahead of all Wisconsin teams and trailing only Lake Park (Ill.).
Molly Hlubek ran a 16:43 and finished 11th overall. Teammate Rachel Rogerson ran a 16:50 and came in 13th place.
"All around our meet was a good one," head coach Brian Jefferson said. "We saw many personal records throughout the three races (frosh/soph, junior varsity, varsity), but we still have a lot of work to do before our conference meet at Oregon in a couple weeks."
Michelle Wiesenberg finished with a time of 17:47, and according to Jefferson had not only another good race, but is inching her way closer to a possible varsity position.
Monroe's junior varsity team finished 16th overall. The varsity team saw Tess Seichter (15:31, 15th overall) leading the charge.
"I feel like this is getting old, but once again Tess Seichter blew my mind with her race. She ran a full 50 seconds faster than last year at this same course," Jefferson said. "We talked before the race and we were hoping for a time in the high 15's or low 16's."
Junior Tessa Frutiger (17:01) and Sommer Bertalot (17:15) turned in solid performances as well.
"Both ran their fastest times of the season, and Tessa's time was a career personal record," Jefferson said.
"Perhaps the biggest surprise of the meet was Ty Gibson. Ty is our top sprinter in the spring for track, but she is probing that she can handle the longer distances as well."
Gibson finished with a personal best time of 17:44.
