STOUGHTON - The Monroe girls tennis team pulled out a thrilling 4-3 win over Stoughton on Tuesday.

"There is nothing like playing three, three-set matches and four tiebreaks on the first day of school in 90-degree heat," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "We talked last night at practice about how that Edgewood match was done and this was going to be the start of our conference season. We really focused on how every match counts and how you never know when it could be tied 3 to 3 as a team with the match on the line and you on the court."

Monroe's Alisa Fager at No. 3 singles pulled out a 7-6 (7), 2-6, 7-6 (5) win in a three-set match.

"Alisa knew the match was on her shoulders, fought back from being down 6-5 in the third set, and came through with the biggest win of the year for our team. I couldn't be prouder of how hard Alisa worked in that match and how she kept her cool in a tough situation."

Sarah Wong at No. 4 singles who defeated Natalie Clerkin 6-2, 6-3.

Monroe juniors Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire at No. 1 doubles defeated Emma Erickson and Courtney Lawlor 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
