Trojans too much for Monroe; Pec wins 2x

BELOIT — The Monroe Cheesemakers had a brief lead against the Turner Trojans in the third inning, but Turner came back with single runs in the third and fourth and three runs in the sixth inning to get a 6-2 win over the Cheesemakers in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Tuesday, May 5.

The top of the order with Eli Schaefer, Marcus Ott, Trent Wyss, and Zane Seffrood got four of the Cheesemakers’ five hits. Schaefer and Wyss each had an RBI for Monroe.

Reece McIntosh scored on Schaefer’s RBI single and Sky Steinmann scored on a base hit by Wyss in the third inning to give Monroe a 2-1 lead before the Trojans came back.

Ott went the distance on the mound for the Cheesemakers, allowing six runs on nine hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.

The Cheesemakers (2-10, 2-6 RVC-Valley) was to have an RVC crossover home-and-away series with Clinton May 7-8.

Pecatonica 4, Monticello-Albany 1

First baseman Reid Schlimgen got two hits, including a double, scored two runs, and drove in a run to lead the Pecatonica Vikings to a 4-1 win over the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions in Six Rivers Conference baseball on Monday, May 4.

Austin Enloe and Ashton McNett also drove in runs as the Vikings made the most of their four hits in the game, scoring two runs in the first inning, and single runs in the third and seventh innings.

Martin Anderson pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just one run and struck out five. Enloe pitched 2.2 innings with a walk and a strikeout for the Vikings.

Tyler Patchen went 2x3 with an RBI for the Space Stallions. Tyler Constantini scored the Space Stallions’ only run in the first inning. Brodyn Bakken pitched six innings for Monticello-Albany and gave up three runs on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Pecatonica 15, Argyle-Black Hawk 0

The Vikings battered the Warbirds with 15 runs on 11 hits and Ashton McNett and Luke Leonard combined to pitch a one-hitter for Pecatonica in Six Rivers action on Tuesday, May 5.

Cooper Schraepfer drove in three runs and Marty Anderson, Ashton McNett, and Leonard each had a double to lead the Vikings.

Pecatonica (7-4, 6-2) was scheduled to play at Argyle-Black Hawk on Thursday, May 7 and hosted Potosi-Cassville on Friday, May 8 in Six Rivers games. In addition to their game against Pecatonica, Argyle-Black Hawk (0-12, 0-10) had Shullsburg-Benton on their schedule on Friday, May 8.

Belmont 18, Argyle-Black Hawk 3

A nine-run second inning aided the Belmont Braves to thump the Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds 18-3 in five innings on Monday, May 4.

The Braves had a 2-0 lead to start the second inning when the first five batters reached on two walks, a double, a hit batter, and another walk.

Jackson Berget drove in two runs for the Warbirds with a base hit in the third inning and Trent Bidlingmeier drove in a run in the fourth inning for the Warbirds.

Potosi-Cassville 13, Monticello-Albany 3

Potosi-Cassville 11, Monticello-Albany 1

The Space Stallions were swept in a doubleheader by Potosi-Cassville on Tuesday May 5 in Six Rivers play.

Brodyn Bakken hit a double and Ty Durtschi went 2x3 and drove in a run in game one for the Space Stallions.

In the second game, SS Tyler Constantini got the only two hits in the game for the Space Stallions and CF Presley Ladwig scored the only run for MA in the second inning.

Monticello-Albany (2-12, 2-7) was to host River Ridge in a Six Rivers game on Friday, May 8 and then play Evansville in a nonconference game on Saturday, May 9.

Stoughton 15, Brodhead-Juda 12

The Stoughton Vikings outlasted the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals in a 15-12 slugfest on Monday, May 4 at Stoughton.

The Vikings broke a 12-12 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cardinals trailed 9-3 entering the fourth inning, but rallied with six runs to tie the game at 9-9 only for Stoughton to re-take the lead 11-9 in the bottom half of the frame.

Trailing 12-10 to start the sixth inning, the Cardinals tied the game 12-12 on Sam Searls’ two run double.

Searls went 3x3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and scored three runs to lead the Cardinals. Chase Bauman also drove in three runs and scored two runs for Brodhead-Juda. Manny Bueno hit a double and scored a run.

Brodhead-Juda (5-8, 4-5 RVC-Rock) was to host East Troy on Thursday, May 7 and travel to Jefferson on Friday, May 8 for Rock Valley Conference crossover games.

New Glarus 13, Marshall 3

Shortstop Nolan Julseth homered and tripled and drove in two runs to lead the New Glarus Glarner Knights to a 13-3 win in six innings over the Marshall Cardinals in a Capitol South game on Tuesday, May 5.

Ethan Colstad and Kamm Nehmer each drove in two runs as the Glarner Knights collected 15 hits and scored in every inning, including nine runs over the last three innings. Matthew Roth allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Cambridge 1, Belleville 0

The Cambridge Blue Jays scored the only run of the game with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 1-0 win over the Belleville Wildcats in Capitol South baseball on Tuesday, May 5.

Nate Rahn of Cambridge got on by an error and later scored on an error to give the Blue Jays the only run they needed.

Belleville threatened in the bottom of the seventh with base hits by Wesley Henry and Marcus Hebgen and a walk to Dawson Smith loaded the bases with two outs. But Jett Horton struck out Gavan Crum to end the game.

Austin McKinley pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, allowing just one run, no walks, and nine strikeouts.

Belleville (6-7, 1-4) faced Cambridge again at Cambridge on Thursday, May 7 and hosted Lodi on Friday, May 8 in Capitol Conference action.

Darlington 9, Cuba City 8

The Redbirds held onto beat Cuba City 9-8 in SWAL baseball on Tuesday, May 5.

Zeke Zuberbuhler went 3x4 with two doubles, an RBI, and scored two runs for Darlington. Grady O’Brien had a hit, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored for the Redbirds. Zuberbuhler got the win pitching in relief of Calum Crist and Dante Glendenning got the save pitching one inning with one hit and one walk.

Darlington (5-5, 3-5) was scheduled to host Iowa-Grant in SWAL play on Friday May 8.

New Glarus 7, Johnson Creek 5

The Glarner Knights erased a three-run deficit with a four-run fourth inning to come away with a 7-5 win over the Johnson Creek Blue Jays in nonconference baseball on Wednesday, May 6.

Kamm Nehmer reached base three times with two hits and a walk and scored three times for the Knights. Matthew Roth drove in two runs and Ashlin Mihlbauer scored two times to lead the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (8-3, 4-1) was set to return to Capitol South action with a game at Marshall scheduled on Thursday, May 7.
