Sugar River goes 3-1 in 4-day stretch

BELLEVILLE — The Raiders are 3-1 this girls soccer season, playing all four games in a four day stretch.

After a 3-0 season-opening win against Cambridge-Deerfield May 4, the Raiders played in the Big Foot Tournament, going 2-1. Sugar River played to a draw against Catholic Memorial 0-0, winning in penalty kicks. The Raiders also beat Delavan-Darien 2-1 and lost to Janesville Craig 2-0.

Morgan Thompson had six saves against Catholic Memorial, which the Raiders beat in penalty kicks 4-3. Against DD, Bella Brenkman scored in the first half on an assist from Jaylynn Benson. Benson scored in the second half to seal the victory. Kaitlyn Peterson had three saves in net for Sugar River. In the loss to Craig, Thompson had two saves.

Monroe, meanwhile, opened its season May 7 with a road loss at defending WIAA Division 2 state champion Oregon, 16-0.
