DARLINGTON — The Redbirds’ big 34-21 win over River Valley Sept. 25 caught the eyes of coaches and voters around the state. In the first prep football polls of the fall 2020 season, Darlington found itself ranked in both the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and Associated Press polls.

The WFCA listed the Redbirds fourth overall in Division 6, two slots behind conference rival Mineral Point, which easily handled Dodgeville. Eau Claire was ranked No. 4 in D4 by the coaches.

In the AP Poll, Darlington was ranked sixth in the Small Schools Division. The AP groups all schools into just three divisions — Large, Medium and Small, while the WFCA follows the WIAA’s 7-division format.

Darlington was scheduled to travel to Dodgeville in Week 2, however the game was canceled. The Redbirds instead will travel to Tomah on short notice. Tomah, a D3 school, lost to Onalaska 39-13 in Week 1.
