MONROE — Cade Meyer was named as the top senior post player as part of the Wisconsin Sports Networks Senior Basketball Awards for this past season.
Meyer, of Monroe, averaged 20.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, helping the Cheesemakers to a 16-2 record and a run to the WIAA Division 2 sectional final. A UW-Green Bay commit, Meyer shot 56% from the field, including 31% from beyond the arc and 70% from the free throw line.
In a sectional semifinal win over Madison Edgewood, Meyer surpassed the 1,000-point career threshold.
On March 9, Meyer’s teammates, guards Max Golembiewski and Tyler Matley, announced on Twitter they would play football at Loras College in the fall. The two is preparing for Monroe’s shortened 5-game alternate fall football season, with practices already starting this week.
Elsewhere, Brodhead’s Cade Walker finished second in Division 3 in 3-point shooting percentage for those with more than 75 attempts on the season. Walker was 38 of 84 (45.2%). Cole Uhlenbrauck of Saint Mary Catholic led D3 at 45.3%. Stephen Schreiter of Fond du Lac (D1) was the top shooter in the state, hitting 51 of 97 attempts (52.6%) in 20 games.
