Jubany defeats Pec, Monroe trounces ET

ALBANY — Juda-Albany rallied for a 6-3 win over Pecatonica in softball on Friday, April 10.

The Pecatonica Vikings quickly got a 3-0 lead over Juda-Albany on runs by Brooklyn Johnsrude, Katelynn Jorenby, and Gretta Schraepfer in the first inning. But, Juda-Albany tied it up with three runs in the third inning.

Jubany went ahead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning scored by Ryleigh Brown and Phoenix Homan and added an insurance run scored by Reegan Schmidt in the sixth inning to come away with the win.

Juda-Albany is 1-0 following the win and Pecatonica is 1-4 after taking the loss.

Monroe 15, East Troy 3

EAST TROY — The Monroe Cheesemakers started out hot and finished with a flourish in defeating the East Troy Trojans 15-3 in RVC-Valley softball on Thursday, April 9.

The Cheesemakers began the game by scoring four runs in the first inning, then put up 11 runs over the final three innings to get their fifth win in six games this season. After the first inning, East Troy cut the Cheesemakers’ lead to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the third inning. Monroe erupted with two runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, and four runs in the sixth.

Senior Kaegann Paulson went 2x4 with four RBIs and a run scored while junior catcher Kaya Holverson went 1x2 with three RBIs, a walk, and a run scored.

At the top of the batting order, sophomore shortstop Jayde Hawkinson got two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run along with two stolen bases while junior right fielder Maddi Ruegsegger scored two runs and drove in a run. Cleanup hitter, junior 1B Paizley Kundert got on base three times with a hit, two walks, and had two RBIs.

Paulson pitched six innings and allowed three runs, two earned. She walked two and recorded 10 strikeouts. Through six games, Paulson has 41 strikeouts with nine walks with a 2.27 ERA.

The Cheesemakers returned home for a nonconference game scheduled on Monday, April 13 against Platteville before an RVC-Valley game at Delavan-Darien on Tuesday, April 14.

Pecatonica 4, Highland 2

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica Vikings scored twice in the first inning and got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to get a 4-2 win over the Highland Cardinals in Six River softball on Thursday, April 9.

Brooklyn Johnsrud led off the game for the Vikings with a double and scored and Katelynne Jorenby scored on an RBI single by Gretta Schraepfer to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Schraepfer singled and scored in the fourth inning to put Pec ahead 3-0 and Johnsrud scored her second run of the game in the fifth inning after a walk and two stolen bases to make it 4-0.

Sam Hittesdorf pitched six scoreless innings before giving up two runs to the Cardinals in the seventh inning to get the win. Hittesdorf allowed two runs on two hits, walked three and struck out three.

Pecatonica (1-3, 1-0) was set to host Monticello-New Glarus on Monday, April 13 and Argyle-Black Hawk on Tuesday, April 14 in Six Rivers action.

Iowa-Grant 13, Darlington 1

DARLINGTON — The Iowa-Grant Panthers scored 13 runs on 13 hits and cruised to a 13-1 win over the Darlington Redbirds in SWAL softball on Thursday, Apr. 9.

The Redbirds got their only run in the first inning. Maicy Norgard got two of Darlington’s four hits in the game. Allie Wineland and Kate McGranahan got the other two hits for Darlington.

The Panthers scored five runs in the first inning, five more runs in the fifth inning and added three runs in the seventh.

Darlington (1-4, 0-2 SWAL) travels to Monticello-New Glarus for a nonconference game on Tuesday, Apr. 14.

Monticello-NG 9, Juda-Albany 5

MONTICELLO — Monticello-New Glarus scored eight runs in the first three innings to take a 9-5 win over Juda-Albany in Six Rivers softball on Thursday, April 9.

After getting a run in the first inning, MNG added three runs in the second inning followed by four runs in the third to build an 8-0 lead. Jubany tried to rally with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth but it wasn’t enough.

Brodhead 12, Big Foot 0

BRODHEAD — Sophomore Mady Henning fired a four-hit shutout while freshman Elise Rear and sophomore Natalie Pierce combined for seven RBIs to power the Brodhead Cardinals past the Big Foot Chiefs 12-0 in five innings in RVC-Rock softball on Thursday, April 9.

Henning struck out eight and walked just one batter in five innings. Elise Rear hit a home run and drove in four runs and Pierce went 1x3 with three RBIs to pace the Cardinals. Sadie Woelky hit a double and had two RBIs and scored two runs while Jasmine Nehls scored twice for the Cardinals.

Brodhead (2-0-1, 2-0) had a nonconference game scheduled for Monday, April 13 against McFarland followed an RVC-Rock game on Tuesday, April 14 at Edgerton.

Belleville 14, Benton-Shullsburg 11

DARLINGTON — The Belleville Wildcats took on Benton-Shullsburg in the Darlington Tournament on Saturday, April 11 and came up with a win.

The Wildcats scored all of their runs over the first four innings to take a 14-2 lead. Benton-Shullsburg came charging back with a six-run fifth inning and added three more runs in the sixth inning with the help of five errors.

Belleville (2-2, 0-1 Capitol South) had a nonconference game scheduled at Evansville on Monday, April 13 before hosting Waterloo in a conference game on Tuesday, April 14.

Cambridge 5, Belleville 2

CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Blue Jays got five runs in the first three innings and took advantage of three errors by Belleville to get a 5-2 win over the Belleville Wildcats in Capitol South Conference softball on Thursday, April 9.

After falling behind 5-0 after three innings, the Wildcats put up two runs in the fourth inning, but they were shut down the rest of the way.

Argyle-Black Hawk 3, Barneveld 0

ARGYLE — The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles made the most of their six hits to score three runs in the fourth inning to get a 3-0 win over the Barneveld Eagles in Six Rivers softball on Thursday, April 9.

Monticello-NG 4, Argyle-Black Hawk 0

MONTICELLO — Monticello-New Glarus handcuffed the Orioles on five hits in a 4-0 win over Argyle-Black Hawk on Friday, April 10 in a Six Rivers game. The Ponies got all the runs they needed with two runs in the first inning. MNG improved to 4-0 with the win.

Orangeville 18, Argyle-Black Hawk 1

The Orangeville Broncos exploded with a seven-run first inning and rolled to an 18-1 win over the Orioles in the Argyle-Black Hawk Tournament on Saturday, April 11.

Oregon 15, Argyle-Black Hawk 0

The Oregon Panthers put up 10 runs in the first inning as they roughed up the ABH 15-0 at the Argyle-Black Hawk Tournament on Saturday, April 11. ABH managed to get just two hits in the game.

Argyle-Black Hawk fell to 3-3 overall with the loss. The Orioles get back into Six Rivers action this week with a home game against Belmont on Monday, April 13 and a road game on Tuesday, April 14 at Pecatonica.
