HWY 78 rivalry goes to five sets

ARGYLE — Bouncing back from their four-set loss earlier in the season, Argyle defeated Pecatonica in five sets on Oct. 17. The Orioles won the first two games 25-19, 25-17 before dropping the next two 23-25, 17-25. They then held on in an extra-point fifth set, 16-14. 

Argyle served up 15 aces, led by Claire Holmes with four. Brynn Harris and Lexi Wonders also had three each. Kylie Butler and Brooke Wellnitz led the offense with a combined 37 kills. Wellnitz also registered four blocks, while Butler had 23 digs.

Tisch paced the Pecatonica offense with 21 kills on 68 swings. Diana Hendrickson chipped in 12 kills on 31 swings with just three errors for a team-high .290 hitting percentage. Aleah was a looming presence at the net with five blocks, followed by Mikaela Gross with four. Tatum Kurschner had 39 of her team’s 41 assists, while Rya Jorenby led the team with 25 digs. 

With the result of the match and Monticello’s 3-set loss to Barneveld, Pecatonica, Argyle and Monticello finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Six Rivers East with 8-4 records. 


BLACK HAWK 3, JUDA 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors swept the Panthers 25-19, 25-10, 25-23 on Oct. 17. 

Maddy Lange led the team in three categories — aces (3), digs (2) and blocks (1). Maddy Place recorded seven assists, one block and three saves. Mya Milz had two digs, while Hailey Wellnitz and Reese Anderson had a block each.

In other local volleyball, Monroe fell to Clinton in five sets — 16-25, 25-14, 25-17, 13-25, 15-10. Barneveld remained undefeated in the Six Rivers East with a sweep of Monticello.
