MONROE — The Cheesemakers won a solid dual victory over Milton 104-66 on Parent’s Night Sept. 18.
“The girls showed their parents all that they can accomplish in the water,” Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said.
Freshman Morgan Erstad posted a team record in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:52.55.
The night started strong with Monroe-New Glarus taking first and second in the 200-meter medley relay. The Cheesemakers would win all three relays and nine of the 11 events on the evening.
“The girls are working hard and it is paying off at meets,” Moser said.
Cheesemakers sophomore Mekenzie Hammer won the 200 individual medley (2:34.76) by 14 seconds ahead of freshman teammate Kaitlyn Elgin, who was second. Hammer also won the 100 backstroke (1:07.50) ahead of senior teammate Nina Schiro by six seconds.
Sophomore Francesca Shiro won the 50 freestyle (29.64) by a full second, and freshman Alyssa Roelli (1:14.43) edged Stoughton’s Leire Begona in the 100 butterfly by 11/100ths of a second.
Freshman Karley Michels won the 100 breaststroke (1:23.96), one place ahead of freshman teammate Payton Yaun.
Hammer, Michels, Roelli and Erstad teamed up for the 200 medley title (2:10.14), with Elgin, Yaun, Nina Schiro and freshman Samantha Schiro taking second (2:21.37).
Roelli, Francesca Schiro, Kendra Wenger and Cammi Ganshert teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:01.35), and Francesca Shiro, Nina Schiro, Erstad and Hammer won the 400 meter relay (4:19.06).
“They also know they really need to focus on fine tuning like getting the strong underwater kicks going, the breakouts and fast turns as well as building their endurance and speed in order to be ready for the conference and sectional meets down the road,” Moser said.
Monroe-New Glarus now has a week break from competition before an Oct. 2 dual at Oregon.
