MADISON - Craig Hodgson struggled with the heat and he fell out of contention at the Wisconsin State Amateur Golf Championships Wednesday at the Maple Bluff Country Club.
Hodgson entered the third round at 4-over-par and tied for 20th place. He tumbled down the standings in the third round shooting a 14-over-par 85 and he is now tied for 73rd. He is 18-over-par entering the final round today.
Hodgson birdied three holes including the 559-yard No. 9, the 497-yard No. 14 and the 356-yard No. 16.
However, he couldn't work his way out of trouble on No. 2 where he took a 9 and he had a double bogey on No. 8.
Chris Meyer, who grew up in Minnesota, is the leader heading into the final round. Meyer, who will be a junior for the University of Wisconsin men's golf team, shot a 2-under-par-69 during the third round and he is 1-under for the championship.
