BURLINGTON - The Comets' celestial gas ran out Thursday night, but they didn't go out without giving a scare to top-seeeded Burlington Catholic Central.

Albany rallied with a 17-10 fourth quarter, but the reigning Division 4 Clinton regional champions had too much firepower and won 57-47 behind junior Alexa Deacon's 20 points.

Comets' all-time leading scorer Amy Golz had a team-high 16 points with incumbent lead Hayli Peach adding eight in the girls basketball regional semifinal loss.

Central's Carol Henney added 10 points for the Lady Hilltoppers, who face Willliams Bay in the regional final Saturday in Clinton. The winner will square off against the winner of Black Hawk and Pecatonica next Thursday at Evansville High School.

VERONA REGIONAL >

No. 2 Dodgeville 56, No. 3 Brodhead 44>

It won't be a meeting of area teams Saturday in Verona, as the Dodgers took down the Cardinals.

Brodhead cut a 10-point halftime deficit down to six going into the final frame, but Dodgeville came up big with 25 fourth-quarter points in the regional semifinal win. Chelci Reynolds led her squad with 14 points, followed by Ann Tank and Steph Pittz, who added 13 and 11, respectively.

The Cardinals had a trio of players in double figures, led by Alyssa Harding's 14 points. Paige Hoeper drilled three 3-pointers to help get her 11 and Dana Lewis had 10 points in the paint.

Dodgeville's victory assures that the Verona Regional final will be a rematch of last season's Dodgers-Cheesemakers tilt.

Dodgeville took that matchup over the heavily-favored Monroe squad, 40-30.
