DODGEVILLE - The Monroe boys soccer team used its speed to jump ahead of Dodgeville and hang on to a 3-2 win Saturday.

Monroe (6-2, 1-1 Badger South) scored three first-half goals en route to the victory. Senior Ben Murray scored a goal on an assist from Taylor Teasdale at 4 minutes, 14 seconds. Junior Blake Bast then scored a goal on a pass from senior Corey Flannery at 12:31 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead.

"They played a little hectic once they knew we could run on them," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said of the Cheesemakers. "They weren't as relaxed as we wanted them to be. It was nice to get out to that fast start."

Sophomore Kevin Noriega scored a goal right before the half on a pass from Blake Duffy to give the Cheesemakers an insurmountable three-goal lead.

"We sat several of our starters in the second half because we have two conference games coming up this week," Vasquez said. "They played a little sloppy in the second half."

The Cheesemakers have won their last two games and will look to extend the winning streak this week. Monroe hosts Oregon on Tuesday and hosts Madison Edgewood on Thursday..

"We have played three decent games," Vasquez said. "We know we can play with the good Division 1 teams. They just have to realize what their capabilities are and play their game."
