Darlington boys produce six titles at own invitational

DARLINGTON - Brady McDaniel, Tyson Miehe, Quinn Cullen and Destin Komprood captured individual titles and two Darlington boys relay squads ran to victory Tuesday in the eight-team Darlington Invitational.

In the girls competition, Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz swept the sprinting events and the Warriors and Darlington each recorded three titles total in the event, for which team scores were not kept.

McDaniel won the 400 meters in 57.60 seconds while Miehe was the 800 winner in 2:06, Cullen was the 1,600 champ in 4:43.40 and Komprood the 3,200 winner in 10:35.20.

The Redbirds' 1,600 relay unit of Storm Wiegel, Cedric Flesher, Mitchell Langkamp and McDaniel took the title in 3:41.50 while Darlington's 3,200 relay crew of Komprood, Kent Miehe, Tyson Miehe and McDaniel won in 10:44.80 - nearly a minute ahead of Darlington's B squad.

Black Hawk's 400 relay squad of Jayden Rufenacht, Shawn Woodruff, Hayden Schliem and DeeJay Warrell finished first in 47.30.

Wellnitz won the 100 in 12.40 - a full second ahead of the runner-up, and won the 200 in 27.20. Kate Quinn added the third Black Hawk title, winning the discus with a heave of 100 feet, 4 inches.

Christa Wamsley notched an individual title for the Darlington girls, winning the 800 in 2:36.80.

The Redbirds' 1,600 relay, consisting of Alison Wedig, Tatum Evenstad, Claire Scott and Hannah Huffman, won in 4:26.80 and Darlington's 3,200 relay unit of Wamsley, Amy Jorgenson, Evenstad and Harley Douglas finished in 10:44.80 for a 32-second win over Black Hawk.

Other schools competing included Galena, River Ridge, Southwestern, Benton-Scales Mound, Stockton and Shullsburg.
