MONROE - Sophomore Olivia Bobak and senior Carly Upmann combined to toss a no-hitter in the Monroe High School softball team's 16-1, five-inning win over Baraboo in nonconference action Tuesday at Twining Park.
Bobak started and pitched three no-hit innings and struck out five. Upmann pitched two shutout innings in relief and struck out two and walked one.
"Both pitchers did a great job," Monroe coach Joe O'Leksy said. "They were both really good at hitting their spots. We will need both of them in the next week."
Monroe (11-4) hosts Milton in makeup game today at Twining Park and then plays at Oregon on Friday before playing a doubleheader Saturday at Waunakee.
The Cheesemakers pounded out 18 hits against Baraboo and sealed the victory with a 15-run second inning.
Monroe freshman Grace Tostrud went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Junior Meredith Hose went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and sophomore Hailey Betthauser was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double. Both senior Megan Baumgartner and Bobak were 2-for-3 with one RBI.
"We were hitting them where they weren't," O'Leksy said. "I'm really happy with how we are tracing the ball and hitting it up the middle. We are really driving the ball well. We put the pressure on them every time."
