MONONA GROVE - Monroe junior Brooke McBain scored 18 points to propel the Cheesemakers to a 43-30 win over Monona Grove on Saturday.
Monroe (10-8, 5-5 Badger South) made 17 of 20 free throws, including 9 of 12 in the fourth quarter, to seal the win.
"We did an excellent job," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said of shooting free throws. "That was a big key to the game."
The Cheesemakers jumped out to an 11-5 first quarter lead and led by seven points at halftime. The Cheesemakers controlled the game in the second half and led 30-20 entering the fourth quarter.
"I thought throughout the game our kids did a great job defensively," Mathiason said. "As a team we did a great job of team defense. We did a great job of limiting their ability to drive. When they did drive, we had multiple people rotating."
Monroe senior Kylee Ritschard scored eight points and senior Kyleigh Sellnow added seven. Fellow senior Abby Jacobson chipped in six.
