BRODHEAD - The Brodhead softball team went 2-1 in its home tournament on Saturday.

McFarland knocked off Brodhead 5-0 in the first game. The Cardinals then defeated Warren-Stockton 8-1 and rolled to a 10-0 win over Monticello.

McFarland's Mia Hoveland tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 13 against the Cardinals in the first game. The Spartans sealed the victory with a three-run sixth.

Brodhead junior Azzy Steiner pitched a complete game and gave up five runs on nine hits. She struck out six and walked three.

In the game against Warren-Stockton, Brodhead senior Michelle Loeffelholz went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The Cardinals broke the game open with a five-run fifth. Brodhead's Katie Goecks went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Both Hunter Fields and Madison Ils scored two runs.

Steiner pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up one unearned run on two hits, struck out nine and walked none.

It didn't take the Cardinals long to jump on Monticello. The Cardinals scored two runs in the first and led 3-0 after two innings. Brodhead erupted for five runs in the third.

The Cardinals had nine hits. Brodhead senior Ali Rosheisen went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Steiner went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Loeffelholz was 2-for-2. Whitney Gerber, McKenna Bump and Goecks each drove in two runs.

Steiner tossed a one-hit shutout to get her second win of the day. She struck out seven and walked one.

The only hit for the Ponies came from senior Marissa Peterson, who went 1-for-2.

Monticello freshman Mia Brokopp pitched three innings and gave up six earned runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked four. Senior Jessie Garrison pitched one shutout inning in relief.
