Blues topple Mosinee

MONROE - The Monroe Blues semi-pro adult hockey team kicked-off hockey appreciation weekend Friday with a much-needed win over the Mosinee Papermakers 8-6.

Mosinee did get on the board first, with the Blues netting the next three goals. Mosinee was able to make a comeback scoring the next three goals to take 4-3 lead in the second period.

Monroe was able to tie it up with 10 minutes left in game. Mike Miller's goal with 1 minute, 29 seconds left gave Monroe the go-ahead goal and Gottlieb Brandli III sealed the game up with another goal with 49 seconds left.

Brad Gicopoulos and Miller each scored three goals. Tim Tarvis and Brandli III each had a goal. Recording assists were Tarvis (three), Gicopoulos (two), Brandli III (two), Phil Hoss (one), Paul Morris (one) and Miller (one).

Goalie Caydon Edwards had 58 saves for the win. The Monroe Blues have two home games this weekend. The Blues play Friday night at 8 p.m. against the West Bend Boomers and on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Fond Du Lac Bears at SLICE Arena, 1632 4th Ave. West in Monroe.
