DUBUQUE - Black Hawk junior Conner Meyer scored 18 points and reached the 1,000 career point milestone to help propel the Warriors to a 64-57 win over Don Bosco Catholic in the Wendy's American Trust Classic Saturday at Loras College.
Don Bosco, ranked No. 7 in the Iowa Class 1A state rankings, led the Warriors by 1 point at the half. Black Hawk senior C.J. Leuzinger scored 18 points. Black Hawk (7-3) outscored Don Bosco 38-30 in the second half.
Black Hawk junior Kyle Lovelace added 10 points, and senior Jason Treuthardt chipped in 8 points.
Don Bosco's Sean McFadden scored a game-high 25 points, and Zach Nie added 21.
"We played a close and intense game where it was within a couple of possessions," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "That will help prepare us for the playoffs. That is valuable. We kind of had to grind the game out and make our free throws. Come playoff time, that's what you have to do to win games."
